About Virgin Media
Virgin Media are notable as one of the industry leaders in superfast fibre-optic broadband, and because of this have a reputation for providing the most consistently fast broadband available. But for Virgin fast isn’t fast enough, and not only are they dedicated to expanding the reach of their existing 50mb cable broadband network, they are even conducting trials with 100mb cable broadband speeds! They are also unique in that their broadband packages don’t come with strict download limits. Instead their innovative download limiting system means that your download speed may be temporarily curbed at peak times if you got over a certain threshold - but won’t be entirely cut off!
Virgin Media offer not just broadband but also television, landline and mobile telephone services. This enables them to offer some great package deals if you’re looking for a more than simply just broadband, and if you add Virgin TV to your package you can access all the regular Sky channels as well as music, movies and TV on demand.
Best Bits
Virgin media are currently offering all their broadband packages at half price for first six months providing you also have a Virgin Media line rental. This means you can save up to £75 in the first 6 months of your contract!
Virgin Media broadband packages are also available without line rental which means they have some great deals for customers who aren’t interested in landline telephone services. Their entry level package (10mb) is only £16/month for 3 months and £21/month thereafter which makes it one of the cheapest broadband deals going – and with a 12 month contract rather than the standard 18 month contract it’s more flexible too!
Check with your Neighbors before you get and Virgin Media cable product. They are really stressing some areas of their network and it has taken 6 months for them to come up with an answer (it took 3 months for them to even acknowledge an issue. Terrible offshore customer service and some very poorly trained staff too that will bend the truth and say whatever you want to hear to get you off the line. Some areas work perfectly, some are falling down around their ears, but they wont tell you this and will keep adding new customers. Right now in peak times and for every day since June the 4th 2010 i have had in excess of 10-20% packet loss and latencies ranging from 40 upto 200ms. Unusable for any gaming, Streaming of Media or VOIP SERIOUSLY CHECK WITH NEIGHBORS BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING

Never again 1
Make sure pets are out of the room when they fit it, they will run the cable straight over the top of them (pets) in their quest to take the easiest (ugliest) route. Keep an eye on bills as they will get it wrong in their favour. When service is down make sure you speak to them as you will not be compensated otherwise.

Virgin are Terrible! Shocking! 1
Couldn't find my address. Then changed the installations date three times. Then told I would have to wait another week making it six weeks in total since I walked into the Virgin Media store to order the XXL package. Basically, everything is out-sourced so nobody really knows what the hell is going on and nobody is willing to take responsibility. After wasting so much of my time with them I cancelled my order and have returned to writing letters and watching DVD's. They couldn't organise a pxxx up in a brewery. Useless!!!!

Awfull service 1
The service when it works is fine. Good speeds etc. However when, after many years of loyalty. You come to realise they are charging you more than new business. You have to try and leave before they will, at best meet you halfway on price. They also make you resign for another 12 months and if you dare wish to upgrade your services they will charge you more than new business or charge you a bit less and make you resign. Technical support, are usually crap. You’re better off with Google whenever possible. Sales cant workout how to schedule a delivery. Virgin think a 50mb modem is harder to connect two wires to than a 20mb modem that requires the same two wires. If you find you need to move house and they are not in your new area they will charge you a few hundred pounds to cancel, oddly it is cheaper to cancel with India after 6pm than it is with Scotland in normal working hours. I think this is part of their variable “Take as much money as they think they can get away with” policy. I

50Mb Broadband service 5
Been with Virgin since they were Telewest 15 or so years. Moved from 20Mb to 50Mb about 6 months ago. Superb speeds. Upgraded router to Netgear Wireless-N, now awaiting delivery of Gigabit router to go Gigabit throughout. Regularly achieving > 40Mb. Downloads a doddle. Streaming via 100Mb wired connection (soon to be Gigabet) to/from PS3 and from Wii effortlessly. Customer service faultless. The nearest thing to South Korea's service I'm gonna get at the moment - at least until they roll out 100Mb+ !

Not good at all 1
Im on the 50mb package and the download speeds are slower than when I was only on their 10mb package. I am lucky to get over 1mb no mind 40mb, not happy at all

Lovely and Fast 4
Virgin have recently updated my broadband to 10Mb and it really is quick, much better than the previous 2Mb I was getting. The good thing about cable is the speed does not decrease as you get further from the exchange. Speedtest.net is giving me a consistent 9.73Mb.

Fast and great service 5
My 10mb connection regularly tests at 9.6mb on download so no issues at all with speed. Streaming media is great. Not had an outage (except for a supplied faulty modem) and that problem was rectified promptly. Highly recommended.

Not worth a single penny 2
Like most students in Plymouth we went with Virgin and like most other students, we regretted it within a month of signing up!
It is near impossible to watch BBC iPlayer, it took me over an hour to do a 16mb update of my antivirus, and the time when the internet is fastest is usually around 3am!
We opted for the 50mb package and we're lucky if we get anything near 2mb. We did a couple of speed checks online and they were coming up as though we were using dial up!!!
The worst part is that they told us it would be fixed by the end of February - that was in November, and it's still utter shit to this day.
Would I recommended Virgin Media? Never! (unless you do what one person did and say that he would only pay for when he had good service - at the moment he's got a £50 credit note as they haven't had to pay a penny for months!)
I actually miss having AOL dial-up

Don't Make the Same Mistake I Made 1
Don't use this company, they charge you for things they give to you for free, cannot resolve any matters unless in writting with the headoffice, speed is poor, service is poor, as above i never thought I would say this, but AOL is better, which makes virgin media total wank.

Slow speed 1
I've recently switched from a BT 2mb connection to a 20mb virgin media connection and have been very dissapointed, I'm lucky to get 200kb/s download speed and get capped to below 100kb/s after about 5 mins of downloading anything. It takes the mick that I'm dishing out £30 a month and am getting slower speeds than i was with a 2mb connection, sort it out Virgin.

Virgin 20MB Slower Than Dial-Up 1
Had Virgin in a month - VIP Package - and the broadband is useless - that's 20MB of pure kack. While writing this, I'm getting an average download speed of 27.4KB/Sec! My dial-up connection 10 years ago was quicker than that! They've had me reset ALL the computers in the whole house, stop/start/unplug/turn off/turn on modem repeatedly, download overnight - at that speed you'd be up all night. I can pick up an UNSECURED network and get 800+ KB/Sec...So what's Virgin's problem ...USELESS...USELESS...USELESS...You'd get more help from smashing your head with a brick ...USELESS...USELESS...Oh, their only getting a 1 star rating because I can't post this without it! They should have an option for MINUS STARS. I'll repeat: SLOWER DOWNLOAD SPEED THAN DIAL-UP AND THAY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!

50 Mb you have to be kidding 1
What a pile of crap. 50Mb my aunt fanny. Slow as hell. Some days I get as much as 7mb. Other days I 1mb. Web pages are slow to load. Some file downloads are quick but getting to the web page to click on the link to download is problematic. I am guessing they are port throttling.
Horrible arrogant 50Mb staff and customer service teams are blinkered and out of touch with the customer. Billing systems are out of sync with the payments. I got a £10 fine for non payment when I looked online. I got the bill 5 days later. Try sending me the amount. Good job I looked online. Dont go for paperless billing, you cant trust them to do the job.

fast as hell 5
fast as hell, i pay for 20mb and get 20mb
with bt i paid for 8mb and lucky if i got 2mb..
well done virgin

What a useless ISP. 3
Worst ISP I have ever been on.
I paid for a 10MB download speed. To be honest I expected to get around 7MB, but I get... 2MB.
That's right, 2MB. And this isn't even during peak times. Jesus, if you play games online during peak times on this connection, then say goodbye to your sanity. You'll be left screaming wondering why it's so crap.
Also, the speed caps are crap too. Now, I play a lot of online games. If I play or download too much BAM, I have 0.5MB internet for the rest of the day. If I still download too much, I will have 128kb internet FOR EIGHT DAYS!
It makes you scared to use your internet.
Peak times change daily too, yesterday peak times were 1pm to 12am. Day before that, 3pm to 11pm. Today 11am to 12am. That was the last straw, so I switched to O2.
What a useless ISP.
AOL are better... now that's bad.

Virgin Media? More like Virgin Bullshit 3
Crap from day one. From the day it was installed our broadband has been slow or just not working all all. Phoned customer service on one ocasion ant they told us to take our computer to a shop and have windows re-installed! 20 mins later the net started working again and our computer was fine. Only time Virgin offered us any help was when the 1 year contract was up and we handed in our notice to leave, then they sent out an engineer to sort things out. Because of the crap service they gave us 3 months free to get us to stay, once that 3 months is up we are gone as the service is still shit. Service is either slow or not working at all. Would i recomend Virgin NOT IN A MILLION YEARS.

Don't bother 2
I've been with VM for quite some time now, and ever since I 'upgraded' to include phone line rental/calls and digital TV last November, the service has got slower and slower and I am now seriously considering leaving them and going elsewhere. Not to mention the severe hike in my monthly bill!!!

Brilliant broadband 5
Totally reliable always records over 17mb and normally 19.5mb. Got the full package inc phone and tv including 2 virgin+ boxes..(better than sky plus which I replaced)and includes sky sports and setanta all for £85 per month including line rental and calls........brilliant!

A Good steady connection 4
I have been with virgin Media for a few years now. There certainly was a time when we wanted to change provider, especially after trying to get through to customer services. However over the last 18 months their service has got much better. The connection is very stable and constant.

A bit more about Virgin Media
Virgin is one of the most iconic British brands of the 20th century, beginning way back in the early 70s with entrepreneur Richard Branson selling mail order records from his then ‘office’ – a London telephone box. The Virgin Media division of the brand has something of a less colourful history, resulting from a 2006 merger of NTL, Telewest and Virgin Mobile. This merger enabled the resulting company to offer all of their respective services under the Virgin Media banner - television, broadband as well as mobile and landline telephone. They remain leaders in high-speed broadband market having invested heavily over recent years in their fibre-optic broadband cable network.
