About Sky

Sky is probably best known for their satellite/digital television services but they do have some great broadband deals on offer too. Plus all Sky broadband packages come with an up 20mb download speed and their Sky Broaband Unlimited data allowance really is unlimited – meaning no fair use policy!

Still it’s with TV that the Sky brand made its name and it’s easy to see why. Since the introduction of their pioneering Sky+ box which allowed the pausing, rewinding and recording of live television, they have also introduced Sky Anytime+, a video on demand service that is delivered via your broadband connection to your sky box.

It’s hard to beat Sky when it comes to television, and if you have an existing Sky TV subscription they’ll give you broadband for free!

Best Bits

Sky has one of the very lowest entry level broadband deals going at the moment: only £5/month for 12 months and then £10/month if you take a Sky line rental. Even if you don’t want to switch your line rental Sky will offer you the same broadband for £10/month! For package which includes unlimited usage and free evening and weekend calls it’s hard to argue!

They have an auto traffic management from 5pm til 12pm EVERYDAY! They wont remove it, and only told me about it 8 months later when I complained about line speed. They were charging me full price for a 20mbps package and I get less then half a meg at peak hours. AVOID!!!

A bit more about Sky

Sky broadband is, of course, owned by BSkyB, the controlling stake of which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s multinational media conglomerate News Corporation. Since the early 90s Sky has been synonymous in the UK with satellite television, both as providers and producers with their flagship Sky1, Sky news and Sky Sports channels. They are, however, relatively late-comers to the telecommunications market and only added landline telephone and broadband to their enormous television empire in 2006. But Sky are catching up and according to 2009 statistics Sky broadband had 2.3 million subscribers and was growing at the rate of 1 every 40 seconds!
