Tips to help you choose the Best Broadband Internet Deal.
While you are looking for a new broadband provider there are a few items to keep
in mind that could help you make the best choice.
Contract Length
Check the minimum length of the contract. Several ISPs like
TALK TALK and
BT Broadband* have extended their minimum contract from 12 months to 18
months for their cheapest offers. This can often be the case for the cheapest
broadband deals. If you feel commiting to a contract of a year or more is not
for you have a look at
PlusNet
who have 1 month contract deals.
*BT do offer a 12 month option that is a little more expensive.
1 month (no contract) Broadband Deals
Be Unlimited Have no contract, you just need to give 3 months notice to cancel without
incurring any additional charges.
PlusNet offer a 1 month contact
on their packages. If however you leave within 12 months you will be asked to
pay for the supplied router.
Eclipse offer a one month contract option on their Home Broadband
and Evolution packages. There is a setup fee of £47 and no include modem.
Telephone Line Rental
The headline monthly prices that many broadband providers show on their website
and in promotional material will often NOT include the monthly BT line rental
that an ADSL broadband connection is transmitted over, which is currently £11.75
a month. Some of the larger ISPs such as Tiscali and AOL who are
installing their own equipment into BT exchanges (local loop unbundling) can
offer deals with free line rental when you move to one of their broadband and
telephone bundled deals that uses one of their unbundled exchanges.
If you choose a cable provider like Virgin Media to supply broadband it would be
connected to your house via a dedicated cable. In this case you would not need a
BT line and instead pay line rental to Virgin Media.
Virgin Media offer several
bundles that do include free line rental.
Before you sign up to a new broadband deal remember to make a final check of all
the details with your chosen provider.
