About Eclipse

Eclipse has been my only broadband supplier since it became available in September 2003. Until the last few months I had been very satisfied with their service. Line speed had progressively increased, possibly credit should be to BT, and costs have remained competitive.

On the few occasions I have needed to contact them about some issue, via their website, their responses have been satisfactory.

Last July they redesigned their website including a more detailed reporting of download activity. It is now possible to see this on a day by day basis. They also introduced email reminders when one had passed 50% of the monthly 10GB limit. Subsequent reminders for 75%, 90% and 100% are sent.

Although I had never exceeded the limit, I did do so on the first month of the new system. I have exceeded it many times since even though I do not feel that I have changed by pattern of usage (I very rarely use iPlayer).

I have been unable to obtain more detailed information from them about my usage. I would very much like some independent measure but this seems not to be possible.

Using the thinkbroadband.co.uk speed test I have experienced download speeds as high as 5Mbs but on other occasions this has dropped to 0.3Mbs. At the time of writing this, 2.30pm on a Wednesday, it is 1.37Mbs.

I am now seriously considering moving to another provider, one with a higher download limit. One can only hope the the download speeds are high.

Service is generally fairly good.

Eclipse have been a good choice for me. easy setup and a fast and reliable service.
